North Korean Stamp of Dokdo

This is a stamp of Dokdo made by North Korea (date of issue not known). It shows an old map of Usando - it is apparent that North took the same mistake as South did...

  1. I don't know about the original map of this design. Does anybody know? (I'm sorry the map on the stamp is too small to identify...)

    Thanks for the larger photo.

    But I've never seen the map before, it seems to be different from any of the maps Gerry has picked up at the right corner of this blog.

    Does North Korea have their own documents and maps that we don't know?

  4. Thanks, pacifist & 小嶋日向守

    I can read "2004" on the stamp.

    And is it possible that the map is a property of NK and never had been open to public before? Come to think of it, it is natural that they have own old maps and documents. Having said that, Usan in the map doesn't seem to be today's Takeshima at all.

  5. It is not sure that First one(Left-upper) seems to be
    18C末期『海東図』朝鮮全図 at 湖巖美術館

    Forth one(right-lower) could be
    18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館

  7. Right-Bottom image;
    I think The Right-bottom side one could be
    18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館

    Upper-side, left one;
    There are another possibility that Left-upper image is same map with Right-bottom one but different image file , or
    I cancelled the comment about Or 18C末期『海東図』朝鮮全図 at 湖巖美術館, which have many korean text on the maps altouhgh the stamp map has no text on.

    The map on the stamp, what kind of Korean word written on the stamp, assumed 18Century and so on?

    鑑定お見事です。

    なお以下のサイトの一番下の方に、
    http://www9.ocn.ne.jp/~petro/coffeeroom5.htm

    初日カバーの様な別の封筒の写真があります。
    それには、茶色っぽい写真が出ていますが、「于山」の拡大図が載っていまして、文字、染み具合などから色合いは違っていても、全く同じ地図の様に見えます。
    画像を保存して、フォトショップで拡大してみるとよく判ります。

  9. Comparison of those maps
    a.18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館

    Another image as follows;
    b.No.53 18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館
    at Dokdo museum map exhibishion

    image of N.Korea stamp
    c.The stamp by North Korea 1
    d.The stamp by North korea 2
    (c n d, referenced from http://www9.ocn.ne.jp/~petro/coffeeroom5.htm)

    compare and analysis those map
    Compare A and B with C. (check the folding line, edge on the map and outline of the peninsula)

    Compare A widh D (discription about Ullugndo and Usando)

    Those seems to be same map but it is different color because subject to light and camera, I guess

    小嶋日向守 san thank you for information about the image of N.Korea stamp.
