A study of the territorial dispute between Japan and Korea over Liancourt Rocks, a small cluster of barren, rocky islets in the Sea of Japan that Japanese call Takeshima and Koreans call Dokdo.
I don't know about the original map of this design. Does anybody know? (I'm sorry the map on the stamp is too small to identify...)
小嶋日向守様、Thanks for the larger photo. But I've never seen the map before, it seems to be different from any of the maps Gerry has picked up at the right corner of this blog.Does North Korea have their own documents and maps that we don't know?
Thanks, pacifist & 小嶋日向守I can read "2004" on the stamp. And is it possible that the map is a property of NK and never had been open to public before? Come to think of it, it is natural that they have own old maps and documents. Having said that, Usan in the map doesn't seem to be today's Takeshima at all.
It is not sure that First one(Left-upper) seems to be 18C末期『海東図』朝鮮全図 at 湖巖美術館 Forth one(right-lower) could be 18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館
GTOMR,Thanks for the information. Is it possible to show us the maps?
Right-Bottom image;I think The Right-bottom side one could be18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館Upper-side, left one; There are another possibility that Left-upper image is same map with Right-bottom one but different image file , or I cancelled the comment about Or 18C末期『海東図』朝鮮全図 at 湖巖美術館, which have many korean text on the maps altouhgh the stamp map has no text on. The map on the stamp, what kind of Korean word written on the stamp, assumed 18Century and so on?
Comparison of those maps a.18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館Another image as follows; b.No.53 18世紀前期 八道誌図 八道全圖 at 嶺南大学博物館at Dokdo museum map exhibishionimage of N.Korea stampc. The stamp by North Korea 1d.The stamp by North korea 2(c n d, referenced from http://www9.ocn.ne.jp/~petro/coffeeroom5.htm)compare and analysis those mapCompare A and B with C.
