1950's Korean Video: "Dokdo & the Peace Line"

Below is a Korean video from the 1950s entitled, "Dokdo & the Peace Line." The video has no audio, and seems to be a collage of different film clips. One of the clips seems to show "Dokdo," and another shows what might be a captured Japanese fisherman, who seems to be badly burned and wounded.

  1. Gerry,

    Thanks for the interesting post.

I remember that people of Japan in those days felt South Korea to be a dreadful military dictatorial country where you can be easily beaten or shot to death if you are against the government.

So many progressive intellectuals favoured North than South in the 1950' to 1960's.

  2. Yes, it seems that the fishermen in this video is Japanese who was attacked and detained by Korean Coast Guard. It is unfortunate that Japanese government doesn't release enough information about fishermen who were detained in Korea in 1950's- 1965 because they need "protecting personal informatin of the indivisuals". I've got to know this film last year in 2 channel. I wonder why this particular scene is so short? Apparently, Korean doesn't want to show their own fierce behaviour toward Japanese civilian and edited the film so that they can keep acting they are the vicitm.

Korean need to know the truth about so-called president Lee's "peace line", which was not peaceful, but rather dreadful. Korean illegal occuption of Takeshima/Dokdo was done militarily and 44 Japanese civilians were brutally killed or sevearly injured by Korean Navy, Coast Guard and other authorities. Almost 400 Japanese fishing boats were confiscated and 3,929 Japanese fishermen were abducted and detained in Korean jail for 3 years or more, without sufficiant food supply, suffering from T.B. They were left untreated medically, and some of them died without proper medical treatment and Korean didn't even paid for funeral expenses. We don't even know how many of them died now. It was Korea who slaughtered innocent Japanese civilians. They are no victims at all when it comes to Takeshima/Dokdo.

  4. By the way, I've read the book written by former Zainichi North Korean agent in Japan that in some case, those seizure of the Japanese boats and detention of Japanese fishermen near Rhee line were done as the retaliation against Japanese government's allowing sending North Korean residents in Japan back to NK. South Korean government criticized Koreans going back to NK as "北送".

North Korean and General Association of Korean Residents(朝鮮総連) in Japan back then had accused Japanese government of not allowing them going back to NK. Now, in 50 years later, they are trying to avoid their responsibility and shift it to Japanese government claiming that JG allowed them go back to NK, the hell on the earth. When Koren people stop dodging their responsibility and stop accusing others (mostly Japanese) for everything they are not fond of?

    Never.

To get a better understanding of Koreans, try reading 誰も言わなかった韓国人のホンネの裏側—あの烈しさの本当の理由がわかる! by 高 信太郎. He is not anti-Korean in the least, and has been working for Japan-Korea for many years, but in this particular book he talks about some negative things about Koreans, and his reasoning for it.

I'm sorry but It seems like this is 80s video. cuz of the president name in the scenes(which seems like a prize for solders) There are a lot of more falsified information in this blog, but I just don't like to argue with another prejudiced jap blogger.
