Happy Takeshima Day !

Today is the 3rd Takeshima Day. I hope everyone who could attend the ceremony in Shimane enjoyed the program and more member of the National Diet will attend next year.

Today, San-in Chuo Shinpo(山陰中央新報) reported about the Korean article of 「皇城新聞」, in July 13th, 1906, which we have already talked about here. The article confirmed "Seokdo(石島)" in the Great Korean Empire's Ordinance No.41 which orderd to set the Uldo County in 1900 was not Takeshima/Liancourt Rocks at all. Prof.Shimojo of Takushoku University and Mr. Sugihara from former Takeshima Research Group confirmed this article and highly valued this finding. Mr. Sugihara told that it is a collaborating evidence to support Takeshima Research Group's conclusion.

Facts on Arrangement of Uldo County

The Resident-General sent an official letter to the Interior Ministry asking it to clarify what islands belonged to Ulleungdo, which is under the administration of Samcheok County in Gangwon Province, and the year and month the county office was established. The response was that the post of Ulleungdo Administrator was established on May 20, 1898, and then on October 25, 1900, the government decided to post a county magistrate with the county office being at Daehadong (台霞洞). It said the islands under the authority of the said county were Jukdo (竹島) and Seokdo (石島), and that it was sixty ri from east to west and forty ri from north to south for a total of 200 ri.

  1. Happy Takeshima Day to you too, Kaneganese.

BTW, it is strange that the furious anti-Japan demonstrations since 2005 vanished all of a sudden when new president was elected.

Was that manipulated by the former president?
Or as Gerry pointed out in San-In Chuo newspaper, did they notice that it would be disadvantageous for them if every thing goes under the sun?

Do some of Korean people begin to notice that Liancourt rocks didn't belong to Korea from the beginning?
I hope the new president would know the truth and do something for the true friendship between Korea and Japan.

Kanganese we discussed this document before.

This document is first part of Uldo County's Ordinance 41. It states the islands included as part of the county.

The second part refers to old Korean maps. The 200ri measurement given is the circumference of Ulleungdo not the perimeter of Uldo County.
    200里 Ulleungdo NOT Uldo

    Nice try though...

Yes, Happy Takeshima Day, Happy Fall of Port Arthur Day, Battle of Mukden Day and Tsushima Massacre Day....
    Happy Takeshima Day????

    Happy Takeshima Day?........Happy for who?
    Katsura?

  3. pacifist,

"did they notice that it would be disadvantageous for them if every thing goes under the sun?"

Considering that prof.呉相学 of Cheju, the head of Dokdo museum or Mr. Lee of kyujangaak of Seoul National University admitted Usando in some maps and records are not Dokdo, but Jukdo, it is possible. I don't know, but I think it was a result of Shimane prefecture's efforts to show the truth about Takeshima, anyway. And I'm hoping our site has something to do with...

Anyway, this is what Prof.Shimojo said in Sankei article.

I didn't know there are going to sell Takeshima suveniors. If I knew, I would have asked someone to get it. I hope they are going to sell them in Nihonbashi Shimane Kan, too.
