I think there had been a legend about the huge island at northeast of Ulleungdo, may be because of this kind of maps. But it was a kind of utopia, island of non-existence.

This may have been the origin of the unlawful occupation of Liancourt rocks by Korea, but it was an error. They can't snatch some other country's island because of it.pacifisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14100903035796287895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26948035.post-20810378607988140242007-10-13T12:19:00.000+09:002007-10-13T12:19:00.000+09:00Thank you, Kaneganese. I will add your information on the map to the post.

By the way, even though the map drew 越松 as an island, it was actually a military post near the town or village of Pyeonghae (平海). I have noticed that some Korean maps drew ports to look like island, maybe in an attempt to make them stand out.Gerry Bevershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14311939520870098017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26948035.post-45092576623201779052007-10-13T09:56:00.000+09:002007-10-13T09:56:00.000+09:00The explanation of this map in the report by Takes...The explanation of this map in the report by Takeshima Research Center .

⑧朝鮮八道図 紙本著彩 102.1×59.9
The map which describes each provinces. In the map of 江原道, Ulleundo was described near mainland of Choson and Usando was described as an annexed island of Ulleundo, but on the North side just like no.⑦ map. There are sentences like, 「竹田」「朱玉窟」 and it also states as 「地方百里、水路二日程」. There is an island "越松" on the South, too.Kaneganesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533339719864245857noreply@blogger.com
