1600's? - The Map of Joseon(朝鮮国図)

Today, Choson online reported that Korean scholar found Japanese map in Edo era which depict Jasando(子山島) as Choson territory.

However, at a glance, if you have any knowledge of geography and the location of Takeshima/Dokdo, you can clealy understand that it is not today's Takeshima. It's locates north northwest of Ulleungodo and even bigger than Ulleungdo. Usando(Jasando) doesn't always mean today's Takeshima. Actually, never.

On the contrary to Korean claim, it is a good evidence that Japanese in Edo era did recognized so-called Jasando(Usando) was not Japanese Matsushima(today's Takeshima). Interestingly, Ahn Yong-bok testified the location of Jasando as north of Ulleungdo. It matchs those historical record. It is clear that Ahn's Jasando was not today's Takeshima. The Japanese map which depict Jasando is not rare, by the way.

Again, Korean scholar kindly presented a good evidence that reinforce the claims by Japan. Professor 李相泰 made it clear that Usando in some maps , including 1711 official map, are Jukdo, not today's Takeshima/Dokdo on Seoul National University site. I don't understand why this Jasando looks today's Takeshima/Dokdo to him in any way. He explains that this is geographically incorrect since it was made in 1600's and Japanese then didn't have enough knowledge of Choson, then what kind of historical value this map holds in the first place? I sincerely recommend Korean to give up the fabrication that Usando was today's Takeshima, or it goes nowhere but makes looking Korean academics pathetic to all over the world. Sadly, they look like almost comedian to me.

    Raquel,
honestly. I don't know what nationality you are and I know you are supporting the Japanese.
AND I do know some Koreans have been racist towards the Japanese and harsh towards you.
BUT I really don't think the way you're taking things and the things you are saying is the right way to go about the issue.
Have you thought about how many people will be offended and hurt by what you have said?

I don't see why you call us Korean's dogs. By calling us that, it makes you no different.
And, I don't see why you consider Koreans to be Nazis. Is it because we were educated that Dokdo is our territory? because if it is, Japanese are educated to believe that Takeshima is theirs.
And just to get your misconception right, not all Koreans eat dogs.
I don't eat dogs. And what's so bad about Kimchi? You are dissing a country's traditional dish and pride.
And can you stop swearing in Korean, especially if you don't even know how to use it properly.
I'm absolutely disgusted by the fact, a racist like you is using our beautiful language.
And also, stop asking people to reveal themselves, when you can't even reveal yourself either.
You keep ignoring people when they ask for who you are and what nationality you are.
Unless you are going to show yourself stop going about making nasty comments on people and Korea like that.
You can get into pretty big trouble doing that. You know they have Cyber Police nowadays. Don't you?

I'm happy to know that there's normal Korean here.
I had no bad feeling for Korea so far. Because, one of my close Japanese friend studied at a Korean University, Ewha Woman's University. The university is exchanging students every year with my mother university. Some of our acquaintance went to the university. So, I felt simpathy for Korea, because of that.

So, I felt very sad that Korean in this chat were calling Japanese "Jap" and abusing Japanese.

Relating in this issue, I simply thought why Korea never accept the porposal to discuss this issue at the International Court of Justice. It seems both Korea and Japan have reasonable proof. I feel a bit bad for people seriously discussing this issue here, but I think it's not a good idea which is correct here. Because all of us including me are not specialists of history and international law.
I haven't reasonable answer here why Korea won't let this case scholar and court.

    S

P.S. I haven't called Korean "dog", but called "rapist".
It's a very rude way to treat proper Korean. Though, I won't say sorry for junno and some Korean called Japanese "Jap", but I apologize for proper Korean.

Why don't some of the Koreans on this board go through some connections and see if they can find where this snotty little punk lives and say hello to her in person.

Maybe if some Koreans can pay her a visit face to face. I bet she isn't so tough.

THEY ALL THINK "JAP" ARE JUST ANIMAL LIKE A DOG.

JAP are just a animal which is crazy about SEX.

The jap guy who killed 6 persons on the street of Tokyo said "if I had have a girl friend, I would have not kill anyone."

Yes, that is a real Jap' spirit.

    Ha!

    << Do you know? >>

When I traveled all around the world(America,Eupoe, south Asia, and China), what did I see and hear?

I saw every single Jap's girl is like a street girl.

And I heard from every single man in the world
" The Jap girl is the easiest one to have a fun."

Did you told me a low-level creature?

Look at your "18禁 Animation, Manga and 18禁 AV".

Then you can see who is the low-level Creature.

    KA!

Jap blame Korea? for THE SEXUAL SLAVERY?

WE HAVE A JOKE " The Dog on the street, will LAUGH."

Do you know the difference between animal and human?

Animal doesn't have Conscience, but human has.

    After knowing about japanese,

And why the God allowed that those tragedy happened.

    junno

    STOP USING "JAP".
You should know that there are many Japanese can read English. I suppose almost every Japanese who read your note got angry.

You said you traveled many countries. But, it seems you haven't learned anything.

    You even mentioned atomic bomb.
You can say that, because you are ignorant. Still now, there are many people suffering from after effect.

Even at war, there's a rule that every countries have to keep. You can't kill any unarmed people even at war.

Atomic bomb was obviously killed many unarmed people including children and women. And America knew the bomb kill many unarmed people. It's against the rule. That's why America was blamed.
You know, Japan also broke the rule in China. So, Japan have to apologize for China.
And Korea broke the rule in VietNam. So, Korea have to say sorry for VietNam.

World history is filled with blood. No country is innocent.
Through the notes I wrote to you, I was asking you that "Korea have a right to blame other countries?"
If you want to blame Japan and abuse Japanese like that, I can blame Korea and Korean more than that you said.

    So, JUST STOP.

Like the rule at war, there's manner that you should respect.

Seems you've visited many countries. You know, how European behaves. I've lived in UK in the past. UK used to be a Japanese enemy at war. But, there's nobody cursed me because of the history during my stay. I've talked history with some people. There's nobody became emotional while talking. Everybody knows that ordinary people had no choice at war.
Indonesia used to be a colony of Japan. Do you know that most favorite country for them is Japan now?

War caused lots of tragedy. But, it's done. That's all in the past.
In most countries, except China and Korea, are moving on. (I'm not denying the responsibility of Japan.)

    Don't hate Japanese anymore.
I don't want to see a word "jap" any more.

    And raquel
    Please, stop calling Korean "dog".
    It's not a good manner.

Juuno the michingae is not alone in his idea of more atomic bombs on Japan.

He is not joking, and there are many more dogs like him in Korea.

For this reason alone, Japan should not allow the unification between North and South.

Therefore, my calling them dogs is perfectly justified. It's not a matter of manner, but it is a matter of who controls them.

We have to control those dogs in Korea so that they won't infect other Koreans with their "mad dog disease".

he knows chinese letter very well.
he is not a korean. because he said wrong expression of korean.
    he also said 'jap'.

So he must be a chinese.

Anyway he just run away, because he was frightened by the tracing ip address.

And he never told us his nationality. this is the reason why i traced his ip address. and also because of his continuous swearings.

  75. I don't care about him.

Anyway I think whether JUSAN-DO is Dok-do or not, It doesn't matter.

because Japan accupied dok-do from 1905 YEARS when they united Korea
to 1945 YEARS when The Japan empire was destroyed.

From 1945 to now 2008, Korea has been ruling Dok-do.

    They accupied for 40 years.

And Korea has been ruling Dok-do for 63 years now.

We can't be sure who controled Dok-do before 1905.

Korea says they ruled, but Japan saya they did.

    hahaha

Then why should Korea returned their island to Japan?

Japan's occupying Dok-do started with the birth of Japan Empire, and just ended with the ruin of empire, which was an alliance of Nazzi empire.

Still I can't understand the attitude of Japanese, and their government.

    Hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  76. And I've founded onething

"In 1900 years, King Go-jong, the king of chosun, proclaimed the dominium of Dok-do to the world."

At that time, Go-jong proclaimed that ULLUNG-DO, THE ISLANDS BESIDE ULLUNG-DO, JUK-DO AND SUK-DO is the territory of Korea.

In here, SUK means stone in Korean.
As you know, Dok-do is two stone- island.

Also as you can see in the modern map, there are two islands on the East sea.

One is the group of islands of ULLUNG-DO(including JUK-DO) and the other is this DOK-DO.

    6) At the end of 19 century, the text book for education was started to be made, and the newspaper wrriten by Korean letters was published.
So the officer grammar of Korean need to be made.
Then the Korean government made a research center for Korean grammar in the Education Department in 1907 years.

In 1909 years, 8 scholar reported
the right text of Korean grammar research. ~~~ㄷ,ㅈ,ㅊ,ㅋ~~~ㅅㄱ,ㄲ~~~~~~~ㅃ,ㅆ~~and so on.

But that proposal was not published officially, because the Jap' attacked Korea and started to occupy.

"IN 1900 YEARS, it was before that the modern garammar of Korean was made. only 1906 they started to make an official modern grammar for Korean.

So we can't judge these words '竹島石島" desn't means "竹島와石島' by their grammar.

and the idea on that link is this.

And the translation for this Korean sentence is that

"6) At the end of 19 century, the text book for education started to be made, and also the newspaper wrriten by Korean letters was published.

    竹 means a bamboo.
    島 means an island.

    石 means a stone.

  154. Anonymous19/7/08 12:16

    juuno michingae,

So, you don't know what made you think that "竹島石島" means "竹島와石島".

By the way, Prof. Yi Sang-myeon (이상면) of Seoul National University thinks that "竹島石島" means one island, Dokdo:

    www.donga.com/fbin/output?n=200805300165

That is, he thinks that "竹島石島" does NOT mean "竹島와石島".

    ReplyDelete
  155. The meanig of the vocabulary,

"bamboo island stone island" made me to understand as a bamboo island and a stone island.

Because the way of writing chinese letters is different from THE ENGLISH.

    OK?

    ReplyDelete
  156. I know him, 이상면 LEE SANGMYUN, very well.

because he was one of my professor.
yes, he is one of professors at seoul national university, college of law.

But, I also know he is not so good, so I didn't listen his lecture.

He is just one of guy who only know the LAW and doesn't know the history and the way of using old Korean, so he is not able to read and understand the old documents.

    He is not history teacher.
He is just one of lawyer.

But he had a big mistake, because he treat the old document of 1900 like a modern documents.

    now do you understand?

    ReplyDelete
  157. lee sangmyun 이상면 is a real fool.

I think he may not know the fact that a modern grammar of korean started to be made after 1906 years.

But he is really arogant, because he is the professor of the seoul national university, college of law.

that makes him have a big mistake, even he does not know anything about old korean words.

<< 이상면 is just one of arogant fool. >>

    ok? got it? ha

    juuno michingae,

    Take it easy, paboya.

Prof. Yi is saying that "Jukdo" was added to prevent a confusion.

But, the problem with his theory is that his "Jukdo" means the Japanese "Takeshima".

So, his "one-island theory" is like this:

    Jukdo(Takeshima)=Seokdo(Dokdo)

    ReplyDelete
  166. anyway, even if your idea is correct, that means one dok-do island.

And that means you are idiot.

because that is more powerful evidence about our right on dok-do.

He has dropped a bomb that "竹島石島" does NOT mean "竹島와石島" but ONLY one island.

And, the bomb could be self-bombing as well, michingae. :-)

    Koreans,

The Imperial Edicts No. 40 and No. 41 (칙령제40호와제41호) were announced on the same day in 1900 (광무4년10월25일).

In the Edict No. 40 (칙령제40호):

    "外國語學校와醫學校와中學校" is written with "와".

In the Edict No. 41 (칙령제41호):

"鬱陵全島와竹島石島" is written without "와" between "竹島" and "石島".

So, are there any intelligent Koreans here who can explain grammatically and logically why "竹島石島" in the Edict No. 41 means "竹島와石島"?
